I just saw this gorgeous little family six months ago. Little Lila was practically a newbie. Meeting again just before her first birthday, I am reminded how quickly time flies with our children. I am reminded of how their chubby little hands feel as they grip our pinky finger. I am reminded of how it feels when they finally hit that first year mark, and we look back and can't believe the first year is over.
Let's remember to document every little step, every little toe.
Happy first birthday, beautiful little Lila!
The Gates family are about to welcome their third baby, and they couldn't be more excited. With two big sisters and parents as cool and fun as these, this little guy is going to be smiling nonstop! Can't wait to meet him!
Her name means "poetry" in Sanskrit. I couldn't imagine a more fitting description of this sweet little girl with Indonesian and Hindu roots. And with happy, active twin older brothers, she will undoubtedly be the sweet, gentle poem in this family.
We love you, little Kavya.
This little family received this session as a gift, and it came with perfect timing. They are moving from sunny California to the Midwest, which I hear has actual seasons. So they really wanted to take some time to preserve the memories of basking in the sun and playing in the sea.
I hope when you are braving the chilly Midwest winters, you can pull out these photos and remember what it felt like to have your toes in the sand and the ocean breeze in your hair.
Baby Thomas is one month old. Which means he likes to look around, see everything going on, and be in mama's arms all day long.
We were happy to oblige.
Thank you to this beautiful new little family for asking me in to your beautiful home during this special time. (And thanks to Mama for offering to put on a beautiful evening gown and go outside. Totally worth it. :) )
Enjoy this time together- it passes so quickly.
I don't want to say that my friend Claire stalked this family. But, essentially... well...
Claire's youngest son was in the same Mommy and Me group as this family, and when she saw them, she instantly knew I would have to photograph them. A quick conversation, a text to me, and we were connected.
It was instant love.
How do you not fall in love with a family this adorable, this stylish, this fun to be around?
We shot on mom's 30th birthday, and she kept telling me how these images were, for her, the beginning of a new chapter. For her and her little family. It's a new, more content, happier and more settled chapter, one which we all strive to get to.
Thank you, Carlsen family, for not being weirded out when Claire approached you, for being so willing and happy to go along with everything I wanted for you, and for being open to shooting at my new favorite location in Orange County.
I'm so honored and excited to have been the one to usher you in to this new chapter of your beautiful lives.
A BIG thank you to Claire Pedroza- who not only connected this family with me, but also did mom's vintage hair and makeup styling.
We met on a gray and foggy Sunday morning. The girls had their reservations, I could tell.
As we laughed and played, and walked around the park, both the skies and the girls' spirits warmed, and we ended giggling and dancing in the sunlight.
Thank you, Chan family. I couldn't have asked for a more perfect Sunday morning.

Athan is now 100 days old, which is cause for celebration!
If you aren't familiar with the Korean tradition of the 100th day celebration, you can read up on it here.
Mom, Dad, big brother, Grandma, Uncle, and even the sweet little Millie (their super smart little terrier) all gathered around to celebrate Athan's 100th day.
Thanks everyone, for the sweet smiles. Can't wait to see you in another hundred. ;)
For those of you who aren't familiar, I am a featured photographer for Red Thread Sessions- an organization that donates family sessions to adoptive families. It's something I am so incredibly proud to be a part of. To be the one to document a family that has chosen to give a child a home full of love and security is something I am grateful for beyond words.
Here is a peek at my first session for this incredible organization- with the Jacobs family. They waited eighteen months to bring him home from Korea. I can't even imagine what that must be like- to know your child is out there, to be ready to show him love, to go to bed every night wishing you were tucking him in, and to not know when you'll have him with you. It's the definition of the endurance and power of a parent's love.
Enjoy these first images of their new family, and if you know someone who is adopting, please send them over to Red Thread Sessions.
